IGUGULETHU SCHOOL PROJECT
Amount Donated
R 210 000
Iqraa Trust partnered with the South African National Zakaat Fund in the redevelopment of a school in the Igugulethu Township near Soweto in Johannesburg.
The school operated from temporary structures in circumstances where 970 children from the disadvantaged community were being accommodated in 14 container-type classrooms resulting in situations such as 119 children being given lessons simultaneously by 3 teachers in one classroom.
To alleviate the overcrowding at the school,4 blocks of 5 classrooms each and one block which incorporates the administration facilities and a resource centre have been built. Each block cost in the region of R 420 000.
Iqraa Trust recognised that there was a dire need for facilities at the school and in equal partnership with Futuregrowth Albaraka Equity Fund, funded the construction of one block at the school.
