UPDATE
Iqraa Trust on the Move - Towards the
end of 2008, Iqraa Trust moved
into its own premises on the Berea in Durban. The move has proved
to be a boon as we now operate in an environment which is much
more conducive to working efficiently and effectively whilst at
the same time providing for expansion and growth in our
operations.
Projects and Programmes - During
2008 and 2009 Iqraa Trust pursued its mission to uplift the
quality of life of all South Africans by promoting and supporting
humanitarian programs that are designed to help those who are most
in need, to help themselves. During the two year period Iqraa
Trust provided assistance and support to a wide range of projects
and programmes in the health, education and skills development and
welfare and social development sector.
"South Africa-A Better Life for All" -Conference
- Recognizing
the importance of partnering, Iqraa Trust organized a conference
”South Africa-A Better Life For All” in July 2009,with the objective
of identifying and exploring
opportunities for
coordination ,cooperation and partnering between organisations and
also with government.(For more information go to our

IQRAA
TRUST - ACTIVITIES
PARNERSHIPS-KEY TO SUCCESS
With
the successful implementation of several key pioneering projects,
Iqraa Trust has demonstrated the benefits of partnering with other
humanitarian organisations and government.
In health,
the “IMA/IQRAA
TRUST COMMUNITY RENAL DIALYSIS CENTRE” continues to provide
a much important and vital service to patients who cannot access
this life saving treatment from government or private hospitals
because they do not qualify or cannot afford the treatment.
Two
“ANTI RETROVIRAL TREATMENT CLINICS”
have been established in partnership with the Western Cape
Government and other corporate and humanitarian organisations at the
Retreat Community Hospital and the Vangate Community Hospital in
Cape Town, providing vitally needed counseling, advice and treatment
for HIV and AIDs related diseases in a much more conducive and
comfortable environment where the risks of cross infection have been
greatly reduced.
The
successful implementation of these projects demonstrated how
humanitarian organisations, government and the private sector can
play a role in making health care more accessible, particularly to
the disadvantaged in our community.
In
Education, Iqraa Trust in partnership with SANZAF and other
organisations funded the establishment of the R 2,5 million
“HIGH SCHOOL IN IGUGULETHU
TOWNSHIP” in Vlakfontein near Soweto, Johannesburg. In Cape Town
Iqraa Trust partnered with Mustadafin Foundation to establish the
“EDENVALE
PRE-PRIMARY SCHOOL” in Mannenburg, Cape Town.
Iqraa
Trust’s “STUDENT
LOAN AND BURSARY SCHEME” has assisted more than 1300
students giving them the opportunity of accessing education at the
tertiary level at Universities and Colleges. The “eTHEKWINI
EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT SCHEME" which is being implemented in
partnership with the eThekwini Municipality,
has assisted in
excess of 300 mainly Black disadvantaged students to attend tertiary
academic institutions and vocational skills colleges.
In
Welfare and Social Development Iqraa Trust pioneered the
establishment of the “ORPHAN
ENDOWMENT WAQF FUND”.
A partnership between Iqraa Trust, Albaraka Bank and Islamic Relief
Worldwide, the Fund supports a structured and proven program which
provides comprehensive and wholistic care for orphans and vulnerable
children. As a result of the encouraging support from the community,
the Fund is already benefitting vulnerable children and their
families throughout South Africa irrespective of their race,
religion or creed.
The
ORPHANS ENDOWMENT WAQF FUND
has the potential to harness the resources of the South African
community in a way that will change the lives of thousands of the
most vulnerable in our community for the better on a sustainable
basis.
PROJECT SUSTAINABILITY
A
key concern with regard to many of projects is the sustainability of
projects after they have been established. In this regard Iqraa
Trust places great emphasis on the sustainability of the project
before committing resources to the project.
Iqraa
Trust has successfully adopted the approach of “adopting” projects
which are then funded by the Trust for an agreed period thereby
ensuring their sustainability. In the case of “COMMUNITY
OUTREACH CENTRE-ST MARY’S, Iqraa Trust has adopted two
“Drop in Centres” thus ensuring the sustainability of the Centres
which serve orphans and vulnerable children in the community of
Chesterville. Iqraa Trust has also adopted a “MEN
ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD” site thereby promoting a unique project
which aims at creating work opportunities for the unemployed .Another initiative being explored currently is the implementation
of a “VEGETABLE GARDENS
PROJECT” on a sustainable basis for schools and households that
would empower people especially in areas where unemployment is high.
An
important feature is that all the above projects can be expanded on
a modular basis and Iqraa Trust continually engages with other
organisations to encourage them to participate in the projects.
OTHER PROJECTS
Iqraa
Trust has funded the establishment of
“COMPUTER CENTRES “in
many Schools throughout South Africa as well as providing funding
for HOSPICES,DAY CARE CENTRES
and facilities for the physically and mentally challenged. More
recently Iqraa Trust assisted two organisations involved in
implementation of HIV AND
AIDS AWARENESS AND PREVENTION PROGRAMMES.
